Shavarsh Karapetyan

An Armenian finswimmer, 11-time World Record holder, 17-time World Champion, 13-time European Champion and 7-time USSR Champion and Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.

On September 16, 1976 a trolleybus carrying around 92 people crashed into the Yerevan Lake. Karapetyan repeatedly swam to the bottom of the lake (around 80 feet down) and rescued 20 people before he passed out from extreme cold and multiple wounds, he wouldn’t wake up again for 42 days. He did all this after a 12 mile run.

He now owns a shoe repair shop in Moscow called “Second Breath”
